Playa la Barqueta Surf Chiriqui Panama

Playa la Barqueta is one of the only convenient surf spots in the province of Chiriqui, Panama. Though there are many other places to surf in this area of Panama, chiqui panama surfingthey are difficult to find and travel to. Many Chiriqui surfing locals require a boat and almost all require very large swell before they start to break.

Playa la Barqueta is easy to find and almost always has waves. It may be the most consistent surf spot in Panama, possibly more so than Santa Catalina and beloved playa Morillo. To find Playa la Barqueta one only has to go to David and ask someone for directions to the road to Barqueta and follow the signs to Las Olas Resort. It’s about a 20 minute drive from David.

We were on our way back from a trip to Bocas del Toro and decided to spend the night in David before heading to La Feria de las Flores y del Café en Boquete. Since Barqueta was so close we headed out for an early morning surf session and connected with our friends at PanamaSurfingGuide. There was hardly any swell in the Pacific Ocean so the waves were a fun size at Barqueta. Below are some photos.

Though Barqueta is easy to find and very consistent, be forewarned, if there is any swell  in the ocean, Barqueta will get big and very powerful and unfortunately probably closing out. It’s a place to surf when most of the country is near flat.
