Cayos Zapatilla, Bocas del Toro, Panama

Cayos Zapatilla, Bocas del Toro, Panama. Seriously, this is the view!

Playa Zapatilla as it’s sometimes called, is a part of the Parque Nacional Marino Isla Bastimentos.  Most of this marine park is under water but there are two lovely little islands called the Cayos Zapatillas which are very popular with tourists.

About an hour boat ride away from Isla Colon, Playa Zapatilla is your typical, picture perfect Caribbean island oasis.  White sand, crystal blue , clear waters, reefs good for snorkeling and palm tree lined beaches are the only things available on these islands.  There are no services or restaurants…Sunning, swimming, relaxing and breathtaking views are all this island has to offer and it is more then enough!  There are reefs off the island for snorkeling.  On the day I visited I saw lots of fish and plant life.  It’s always so neat to see what’s just below the surface!

Your boat captain can take you to a nearby island for lunch if necessary or, if you ask nicely, he may allow you bring a cooler onboard with you for a nominal fee.  Cayos Zapatilla is a part of a national park so expect to pay a $5 fee per person for visiting the island, this price may be included in your tour fee, ask to be sure.

Don’t forget to pack your sunscreen!
