Isla Grande

Isla Grande, located just east of the famous colonial Spanish gold port of Portobelo on the Caribbean coast of Panama, about an hour and a half from Panama City,Caribe, caribbean, panama, tourist, information, guide is one of the most relaxing and peaceful towns you will find in Panama. It’s not uncommon to have the small island to yourself during the week. Tourists do frequent Isla Grande, but at times there are very few to none.

The island is just a short boat ride off the coast. There are no roads or cars on Isla Grande, but boats, tropical breezes, reggae music and good seafood with coconut rice is always available. One can sip cold beers or cocktails at the waters edge in the rustic Bob Marley Bar, owned by a local appropriately named Bob.  Or go and hang out at the oceanside cliff hanging swimming pool in front of the surf break at Hotel Sister Moon.  Take a walk up the forested trail to the old abandoned light house and climb up to the top to enjoy the spectacular view over looking the crystal clear Caribbean Sea.

Isla Grande is a short drive from bustling Panama City, but feels like a world away from civilization.
