Boca Chica is a natural beauty located on the Pacific coast of Panama. Visually stunning, Boca Chica has been described as a cross between Fiji and Bocas del Toro. The fishing and water sports are as abundant as the many tropical islands in this area of Panama.
Just a few years ago, this Panamanian gem was virtually unknown except by a few ex-patriot fisherman and sailors. Now, it’s becoming a haven for ocean lovers. Boca Chica is a small town nestled along the Gulf of Chiriqui and protected by the large Boca Brava Island. Located on the mainland about an hour by car from David, Boca Chica is a must see. It’s just a quick boat ride across a beautiful lagoon over to the island of Boca Brava. Beyond Boca Brava are hundreds of beautiful, mostly deserted islands waiting for one to explore.
Boca Chica is famous for its protected anchorage and sport-fishing. The lagoon between Boca Chica and Boca Brava has many large sailing yachts anchored. In the early morning it is normal to see small, center console fishing boats taking their charters to fish in the fertile waters of Isla Ladrones. In the evenings the boats always return loaded with freshly caught fish. This area of Panama is an ocean lovers dream.
There are a several different places to stay and eat in Boca Chica and Boca Brava. Just be sure to plan to stay for a while, it’s a difficult place to leave.
